Top 4 Yoga Poses For Aries



 Aries - the true one and only.

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac cycle and with that comes great responsibility which they have no problem taking on. These people are real go-getters often jumping into situations without giving it much thought. They blaze right into any event - like the firey sign they are - headfirst with a ready-for-battle attitude.

They are courageous and confident and are natural-born leaders. Like the ram that resembles them, they have brute strength and can trample any and every obstacle that stands in their way. This can lead to them seeming cocky and uncaring but once a fire is started it can be hard to control. As is the case with most fire signs Aries can be impulsive and direct and often say exactly what they mean.  Do not let the burn of their words or actions come across you wrong, though, Arians are passionate and honest people who can tend to have a sensitive side.

Aries is the first of the three fire signs, which includes Leo and Saggitarius, and is encompassing of those who have birthdays falling between March 21st to April 19th. Here are my top 4 Yoga pose suggestions for our Fierce Zodiac leaders.


Warrior 1 - Virabhadrasana I



If you ever find you need to ride into battle, I suggest recruiting an Aries to ride alongside you. These people will move forward without hesitation and do so in a fearless manner. For this reason, I have given them Warrier 1 which also plays to their being Number One attitude.

To come into this radiant pose ground through your feet finding balance and stability. Pull energy upwards through the soles of your feet engaging your legs and pelvic muscles. Follow this current up by also engaging the abdominal muscles and opening the chest. Keep your shoulders relaxed and away from the ears as you raise your arms up overhead on an inhale. This pose works the entire body, strengthening all of the major muscle groups and helping to open the heart and focus the mind. 





Humble Warrior - Baddha Virabhadrasana



With Aries, their egos can grow to be quite large. They think highly of themselves and their confidence shines through. Sometimes a reminder to take a step back and be humble can play well for their everyday interactions.

This pose is great to come into after Warrior 1 when sequencing. It is a great reminder that we should feel strong and empowered but also allow ourselves to ease into release. Relinquish a little of that control and be humble for what we know we are capable of.

With feet firmly planted and grounded from Warrier 1 slowly bring arms down behind your back and clasp. While maintaining the open heart space begin to hinge at the hip and bow forward, bringing your clasped hands up toward the ceiling. To come out engage your abdominal muscles to pull you up from your center so as not to put too much strain on your front knee.

Knee to Nose Pose - Jaanu Naasikaa Adho Mukha Svanasana


As mentioned, Arians are highly confident fire signs. So here, I have chosen a moving yoga pose, to build and nurture that fire inside. While doing this pose you will certainly feel the heat which helps to build stamina, endurance, and strength. By cultivating that heat inside an Arian person will be able to shine bright and bring out their strong, passionate personality. 

This pose-sequence begins in Downward Facing Dog. On an inhale lift one leg up to 3-Legged Dog making sure to keep equal weight in both hands and to not rotate hips open toward the lifted leg. On the exhale shift weight forward so shoulders are directly over wrists bringing lifted leg straight through to touch "knee to nose." Push through your hands pulling your heart space up between your shoulders and engage the abdominal muscles to ignite the inner fire. On an inhale again guide leg straight back all the way up to 3-Legged Dog. Repeat this cycle 3 times ending with an exhale to bring the foot back down returning to Downward Facing Dog. Finish this by repeating the same sequence on the other side.

Wide-Legged Forward Fold - Prasarita Padottanasana


Though tough and courageous, everyone needs some time to relax and let things roll off their back. Being number one can come at a cost sometimes and for all my Arian friends having a moment to just gather and center yourself will be beneficial to you and those around you. In this forward fold variation, you will be able to release and let go of what doesn't serve you. You will find calmness and reduce any anxiety that you may be carrying. 

Begin by taking a wide stance, planting feet firmly into the mat and feeling a drawing up of energy through the arches of the feet and inner leg area. With your hands on the hips take a slow inhale in and begin to lower down on the exhale with your open chest leading the way. Eventually, you can release the full weight of your upper body over, releasing any tension in your head and neck.

Your hands, if they reach, can be placed in line with the arches of your feet or grabbing onto your big toe. Depending on your flexibility you may even be able to rest your head on the mat. If neither of these options are available to you, having a block nearby can be handy to bring the Earth to you and help you find support in this pose.
